We are thrilled to release Reimagining the Rideau Canal Parkways, the second in our NCC Parkways Series. This paper is a compilation of community ideas on how Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Colonel By Drive could be repurposed as a people-first parkway.
Parkways for People is using this paper as the basis for discussions between the community and the NCC on how to rethink these important public spaces. Please let us know if you have any comments or further ideas.
This paper will inform our next community discussion on February 7 (details to follow).
It would be great to see a space on your site to show that not everyone is on board with this idea; what works for some does not work for others. With Main Street being a main ambulance corridor, and with so many cars clogging up this main artery in OOE, there is no better way to get out of OOE than Colonel By. I say this as a Carleton student who needs access to the university and work downtown outside of the pandemic, and Colonel By is the only direct route between the two. Make QED for pedestrians if you want, but let us keep Colonel By please.
